Default Yahoo Update July 20th

Yahoo just did an update, how did everyone fair? Lets hope that this update stands. It seems that the results are kind of back to a norm.

Default Yahoo! is back on Track!

Great observation LVH!

Looks like Yahoo! has made a concerted effort to make the SERPS much more relevant IMHO.

While I only faired well on a couple of my real estate sites, I can see where this algorithm makes sense (finally) and can adjust my other sites accordingly.

If Yahoo! keeps on track with this algorithm I predict we will see a hell of a horse race between Google and Yahoo! for market share.

Keep up the good work Yahoo!

Many sites that previously had only their home page in the Yahoo index now appear to have multiple pages in the updated Yahoo database. I have not compared any of our "baseline" sites against any new sites that have shown up in the top 10 for various SERP's, but some SEO's are concluding that Yahoo has gone back to placing a heavier weight with on-page optimization.

Our client sites all remained stable with their top 5 SERP's for major KW's. My company site did show considerable improvement for some of our major KW's:

1. real estate internet marketing - increased 15 spots to #1 out of 62,500,000.

2. real estate web marketing - increased 21 spots to #3 out of 43,700,000

3. real estate web design - dropped 9 spots from #5 to #14 out of 45,700,000

4. real estate web site - previously not listed in top 100, now #10 out of 160,000,000

5. real estate marketing - previously not in the top 100, now #8 out of 42,500,000

My should be a decent baseline for me to draw a few comparisons of the old algo and new algo because for the past 3 months I have not added any links, added new pages, or made any changes to any existing pages. If I get some free time in the next few weeks I will run some KW/single page density and KW/total site density analysis and post the results here.

Of course, there are many other variables that may account for the change in SERP's, but this is a good place to start.

Just saw this on the Yahoo blog:

Third Weather Report: Yahoo! Launched New Search Index Last Night
We made changes to the index last night so you should be seeing more of your pages in the index as well as some fluctuations in the rankings of results from previous searches. The changes will be a little more intense than the second weather report and changes will continue over the next week or two.

Thanks for remembering. Mom-to-be is doing fine. Matthew Kosloff is due on November 13th.

Right no we are painting, furnishing, and decorating the nursery now. Of course, painting one room is a lot like eating a potato chip - you can't stop with just one. Of course, once we update the paint colors my wife will want to buy all new furniture

Great news HHI Golf Guy.

How could I forget? Matthew is a Scorpio just like me!!

I’m really excited for you and the Mother-To-Be.

As far as the painting and furniture go, like I said in that other thread, kids are the greatest (but I never said they were cheap LOL).

We do expect pictures!!

From the terms above, I dropped to the second page for "real estate marketing" and "real estate web site". I'm sure that we'll bounce around some more while Yahoo shakes out their new database.

We keep an eye on the tropics this time of year, but this area has not been hit by a hurricane in well over 100 years. I think that because we are somewhat "tucked in" along the east coast combined with the wind and air currents most hurricanes will zip towards nother SC and Hatteras NC. But we do have 2 or 3 hellacious thunderstorms each week.

Back in the early 90's we had a big scare with Hurrucane Hugo, and we did evacuate the Island. Lucky for us it veered north at the last minute. Not so lucky for Charleston.

It's funny that about 3 weeks before Hugo my girlfriend and I were taking a horse drawn carriage ride in Charleston. The driver talked about the history of the city, and that about every 100 years Charleston gets hit by a major hurricane and that they were due for another major storm soon. Then Hugo leveled part of the city. My friends and I spent the next month going there on weekends with supplies and chainsaws and helping anyone that needed our services.
