| Yahoo! After remaking itself in 2004, Yahoo! continues to attempt to gain market share by making frequent improvements and additions. |

Another Yahoo Update??
On my Yahoo DC there were massive changes on one of my KW phrases.
Two friends from different parts of the country showed no movement.
The SERPS from my DC had terrible relevancy.
Is anyone else seeing movement again?

Over the past week it looked like Yahoo reverted back to an older database (which dropped one of our new sites to oblivion). But as of today it looks like they are back to the new database (whew!).

Yes my Yahoo DC has reverted to something close to where it was last week.
I just wish they would settle on an algorithm and stick with it for a while.
It is hard to justify the time spent for optimization on a site if you are trying to hit a moving target.

I don't think that it was an algo change, just a different (older) database. The reason that I believe that it was a different db is that one of our client sites reverted to having less pages in the Y! index and I saw a few "old" sites pop back into the top 30 results.

I have not seen results like I did last night before.
It appeared on my DC at least to be a tweaking the algorithm.
However I don’t think the algorithm used in yesterdays SERPs will endure in as much as the non-real estate Japanese language site that I complained about being on page 2 of the SERPs for “las vegas real estate” in the last algorithm change was #1 last night LOL.
Less than relevant results IMHO.
I’m not sure if this was a case of a disgruntled Yahoo employee trying to shoot Yahoo in the foot or if Yahoo needs to initiate random drug testing.
The next time I see results that bad I will take a screen shot and post a link for everyone to enjoy.

IMO, Yahoo just plain sucks, period. Have a site with pages at #1 & #8 for main KW but another site of mine that was #2 a few weeks ago dropped like a rock and doesn't even rank (at least in the first 10 pages). For a year the #1 site was iwantthatwatch.com which sold used watches and had nothing at all to do with the KWs, when they 86'd that site I really thought they were making positive changes, but I guess I was wrong.

Where Is Yahoo Going?
I don’t mind the algorithm change so much as I do the roller coaster ride Yahoo has had us on for the last month.
Again, it is like hitting a moving target.
Although my sites are starting to do OK with the new algorithm, I genuinely believe the Yahoo SERPS were far more relevant prior to the big change.
Even though we can work to get our sites back up, my question is will the general public stay with Yahoo if their results are less relevant as they now appear to be?

The truth about SERP's are that 99.9% people that complain to the SE's about relevancy are the site owners and SEO's. Most web surfers can't pick out a spammy site from an average site.
Any changes that Yahoo has made recently have not had an impact on our portfolio other than the normal up and down one or two places for some KW's, but all the #1's are still on top.
Keep track of your indexed pages in Yahoo. A lot of sites have lost all but the index page lately, and that may be the cause for the drop in some SERP's.
Interestingly enough, our relatively new FSBO site has only the index page listed in Yahoo, yet still ranks #16 for its primary KW. That usually does not happen in any SE, because it takes support pages to back up the home page relevancy and SERP strength (for competitive KW's, your site theme, not just single page optimization, plays a key role). That tells me the site should go to top 3 or so once the other pages are in the index.

Just an aside... I was searching with Yahoo today (for graphics, not real estate related stuff), and was dismayed to see how many irrelevant results were displayed on the first two pages... sites that were as far from graphics as you can get, like a steel company, for heavens sakes.
I like using Yahoo as my primary search engine because you can open the pages in a different window and not worry about getting back to the main results page. It's very convenient. But after today, I dunno

I never use Yahoo any more. Google is laughing all the way to the bank. MSN is still the biggest threat to G's domination, and Yahoo's latest update is testament to it. I think Yahoo is going to lose a lot of market share to Google and MSN if they don't do something. IHMO
