Looks like Yahoo! is playing with their algorithm again today.

We have a totally different Top 10 line up on the phrase “las vegas real estate” and it appears to be on multiple DCs.

Any one else experiencing any changes?

I normally have the 1 & 8 spot on Yahoo but today I slipped from 1 to 4. Same thing happened a few weeks ago, lasted for a couple of days then I was back on top.

Thanks for the feedback HMiller. At least I know they aren’t just picking on Las Vegas real estate.

This is a new tweak on their algorithm.

Sites are now in the Top 10 of Yahoo that I haven’t seen before.

It looked as though Yahoo! was going back and forth between 4 different algorithms, but has landed on one the last week.

Does it look to anyone else like they have stabilized and do you think they are putting out more relevant or less relevant searches?

Yahoo is in the midst of testing a new algo and filters. I see even more strange results if I check SERP's in the middle of the night. FWIW, it looks like they are experimenting with some very aggressive filters - most of which are garbage.

In fact, I think that they have found a way to penalize 50% of the good sites out there and replace them with spam

I think that this Yahoo update will be what the Florida update was to Google. But with Yahoo being notoriously slow to accomplish anything, my bet is that we won't see the final results for another 3-4 weeks.

Yup, I have noticed the same thing, although they do seem to be staying with one most of the time now.

The algo they appear to be leaning towards is completely different than that of Google. It could cause some trouble with trying to rank the same site in both SEs.

It is going to be very interesting to see what they end up with.

That could be true, but I haven't seen that on our sites. For example, our Hilton Head luxury homes site has been rock solid on Yahoo, MSN, and G despite all of the recent changes. Other sites have had modest movements, but they are all fairly new sites.

I see that as well on some of my sites that are in less competitive markets however, the in more competitive real estate markets link San Diego and Las Vegas we really took a hit on Yahoo and MSN.
