Default How to gain position on Yahoo

I'm new to the site and need some help. My site places well on Google but poorly on Yahoo. Why? The keywords I'm look at are "Cape Girardeau Real Estate" and "Jackson Missouri Real Estate"

That’s a great question Neal.

Yahoo recently changed up their algorithm (again ) and there is no real rhyme or reason to it that I have seen yet.

I am personally going to leave my sites alone (especially those that rank in Google) and wait until they come up with an algorithm the yields more relevant search results.

Great, I'll just tell my clients to sit and wait. That will go over like a lead balloon.

So far, it appears that some of Yahoo's recent change involves the way they handle links. In particular, it looks like they are discounting links that they feel are part of link networks or affiliate programs.

One of our sites dropped in Yahoo, and their response suggested that the site in question was part of an affiliate program (it's not).

What we have done is move almost all of our outbound links to a sub domain of the web site (since SE's currently treat sub domains as unique domains and not part of the root domain).

By taking this approach, any time a search engine questions our outbound links the root domain will not be penalized.

I wonder how they determine a link farm? By the nature of our business we provide the realtors with photo links of thier listing. So we have hundreds of inbound links (all Graphical) from different realtor sites.

A link farm would be different from an affiliate network. An affiliate network implies many links from your site pointing to a single site or a group of sites that are heavily cross linked (which is why I never trade links with someone who offers links on something like 50+ sites). A link farm implies many links from one site pointing to many low quality sites.

Looking at the Top 10 for the search term “Las Vegas Real Estate” I see the following;

#1 – A Las Vegas Condo sites specific to 1 project.
#2 – A Las Vegas Real Estate Agent site.
#3 – A Las Vegas News Paper.
#4 – A Las Vegas hotel and tourist guide.
#5 – A Flat Fee MLS Listing Real Estate Broker for Arizona, Alaska, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, and New Mexico.
#6 – A Phoenix Arizona real estate site.
#7 – A site offering Loans, Insurance and Real Estate Agents in about 80 locations.
#8 – Las Vegas entertainment, gambling and tourist guide.
#9 – A sub directory for the Las Vegas entertainment, gambling and tourist guide.
#10 – Another news paper.

With results like this it is not only next to impossible to figure out what Yahoo is looking for it poses the question “why bother?”

These results are less than relevant they are laughable and unless Yahoo starts on a campaign to give visitors good results their market share will continue to diminish.

Just my 2¢ worth,

~VegasMack

Mastered??? I can't really say as I am not no#1 (but I am #11) for Chicago Real Estate) certain things about yahoo.

Your basic headers are h1 paragraph h2 par. h2 par h3 h3 h3 h4 etc seems to work fine. Bold seems to work to an extent. Also another important trick believe it or not is the keywords you put in the paragraph that surrounds the link to your website.
