Smile Site Review With Emfasas On Site Interlinking

Hi Everyone,

I would like to request a site review, but mainly I am interested in your opinion on the effectiveness of the interlinking of all the pages for maximum distribution of link juice accross the website.

Here is the site : Morristown NJ Real Estate

I have a custom IDX in which the individual search pages get indexed by google it is unfortunate that a local competitor seems to have more domain authority than I do and so the towns we go head to head in, her IDX search pages are being indexed and mine are supplemental

Further, for most of the search terms, my local pages such at Madison NJ Real Estate are ranking first page in googles index, but my main site will rank second page of googles index It is great that my local pages are doing well, but it would be even better if my main page would rank as well.

On some of the PR tools that are free my main site shows a PR3 verses the local competitor shows a PR2 so the competitors site having more domain authority kind of seems strange to me.

What are your thoughts and recomendations???

If you have things to say that you don't want your competitors to read here, please PM me, as I know my local competitor who I am trying to out wit, will eventually find this and copy cat my efforts.

Nice site for sure, I'm sure I've seen this site sometime ago.

The predefined searches is a beautiful idea. I've suggested the same thing in forum posts for more than a year and it seems no one takes me serious on that yet studies show its an ideal way to help the SE's index your listings via link following as opposed to just using a site map. Not to mention SE's cant fill out and submit search forms. Good work on that James.

I noticed an unusual redirect on a few links which shows the site URL in the status bar but momentarily points to another URL. Either by design or mistake I'm not sure how it benefits the site.

Also you have a site wide off-site link to REW which may not be the best idea. Site wide links according to those who apparently know say that its a practice that should be avoided.

Some pages push the link number envelope if you include links in the navigation that is. I'm sure the SE's include them in the formula.

The site looks good, easy to navigate and a great deal of keyword density. I have not looked at your SE position but I'd almost venture a guess that you do well there.

Thanks Jared,

Not much I can currently do about the site wide link.

The Redirect is because I has a search page before going with the custom IDX, the old search page had a number of links built to it which I did not want to lose.

Some pages push the link number envelope, you mean some of the internal pages? Do you think that is hurting me, some of them could be gotten rid of if you think doing so would be helpful.

Once again thanks for looking and still open to additional advice.

Its not currently a problem IMHO (in my honest opinion) just something I noticed was pushing the outer limit.

The redirect, that makes sense for sure, I'll look at the site a tad more later however when I come back to post some additional content and articles.

Edit the footer portion of the template (probably footer.php or footer.inc) and either dlete those links or place a rel=nofollow tag within the href tag.

Great advice as usual HHI Golf Guy but my guess is that Jim does not have access to the footer code.

Jim before you even attempt that you may want to check your TOS agreement with your hosting/template company. And if it is not specified either way you should still seek permission before implementing IF you do have access to the coding. Otherwise you may open yourself open for some issues you may not wish to face.

OK now you have my curiosity up. Please PM your competitor’s website URL.

You're right - I made an assumption there based upon how I do business. Once my clients pay for their site and/or at the end of the contract they have access to those types of files and may make any edits.

For top secret stuff we just use Zend and encode it.

Zend is what I do too, I usually put all my zend stuff in an external include file called configuration but I wont bury offsite links because that HAS become a legal issue in recent months. Webmasters ARE being held accountable for not knowing or taking steps to prevent adverse effects in SE's

If a webmaster fails to block a site during development having not known, I read a case where it could be actionable. Leaving site wide off site links again could fall into that.

James, if you have FTP access I can give you a PHP script that can overwrite any php file with a clever search and replace function.

I do not have FTP access, and my site provider hosts the site as a part of the TOS, as well as the footer links are part of the TOS as well, so cannot go down that road.

Mack I sent you the PM, and I guess I will send the same PM to Jared and HHI Golf Guy. Any super secret things you don't want out I am very open to PM.

Got it Jim.

Like I said in my PM I will start looking at it tomorrow when I need to bang my head on a different wall LOL.

My interest is peaked. Especially over your IDX pages going into supplemental. We are not experiencing that lately with the UltimateIDX BTGOG. Of course that is always subject to change.

Under the circumstances I don’t think that any of us would be able to tell you “Any super secret things” LOL. Nothing personal Jim but that sort of thing has bit me in the butt where you are at more than once. BIG TIME! But I will try and help out as I am sure HHI Golf Guy and Jared will.

Without looking I can think of a couple reasons that may cause that, but I will look to make sure.
