Default Website Layout?

As far as website design goes, would you say that "more is better", or that "simple goes a long way"? I am unsure as to how far I should go with marketing on my website. Should I have a ton on flashy ads, tips, and tools, or go with a more plain and bold approach?

Tips and tools can be found anywhere on the web and in print. Build the bond of trust with your web surfers by providing useful and comprehensive local information.

I think that you can have alot of information, but have it laid out in a way that is clear and precise and easy to navigate.

When surfing the net, I'm immediately turned off by a homepage crammed with too much text. Select the main topics (search mls listings, local/school info, call to action,...) and emphasize them in a clear manner and make them easy to find. All the other content (buyer/seller tips, seven deadly sins buyers make, your golden labs bio,...) can be placed lower on the page and on secondary pages. Most viewers have a short attention span and you must capture them quickly.

I personally prefer simple, consise, and to the point websites. Too much info and flashy content can be distracting.
