Thanks Jade,

I could use graphics for

1. headers which can be width 500px to 800px, height up to 250px. The header goes in as a background image and can I alter the design for the header.

2. smaller graphics to give the pages some character and make them (pages) interesting

3. Total design ideas.

Anyone know of a site that has good quality, totally free pictures? I want some variety for Frobn's headers.

frobn I read this entire thread and still can't find where you said there were designs or templates available. I'm looking for good examples to learn from. I'll buy Dreamweaver this week since everyone is telling me its the best solution. I'm still not clear if you have to know php in order to build temlpates and websites but I know that I see so much reference to php in just about every forum I joined today.

Hi Jill,

DreamWeaver is a very complicated program and has a huge learning curve. References in this thread to “Templates” are not the DW or Front Page templates that you see advertised. They are discussing a web based fill in the blanks Template and Content Management Systems similar to those offered by LinkURealty, AA and others.

If you are not familiar with html or php I suggest you contact frobn or Jared via PM about a Template system or you can go with a custom site and SEO by HHI Golf Guy.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the boost Mack.

I think many people are confused between a template design and a template system. Commercial companies like Monster Templates mass produce template designs with an emphasize on eye appeal and graphics but do little to get along with the search engines. Many of these template designs are downright search engine hostile. To build a website with a Monster or similar template you need software and knowledge for applications like Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia Dreamweaver, Adobe GoLive or Microsoft Frontpage, Macromedia Flash MX+. You build the web site by merging your content with the template. Every page on the web site carries the weight of the template and co-mingles your content with the design. The result, after much hard work, is a web site with html bloated static pages and negative SE value.

A better way! Use a search engine friendly template system that dynamically loads your content in a custom or template design. A well designed system is SE friendly, keeps content separate from presentation and gives your web site a consistent look and feel throughout. An added benefit--such systems are Ajax and WEB 2.0 ready.

Here is a draft of an Ajax driven template system realtyvisions (dot) com/template (dot) php, the top menu on this page changes the content without a page refresh by loading the page content directly from the server.

OK - I know this forum is a bit of an outdated, but I am looking onto providing something like this... not really "free" but more "royalty-free" than what is available on the market today I think. If anyone is looking for royalty free images for website template design, please check out EZ Royalty Free Photos at EZ Royalty Free dot com

This definitely looks like a template to me. This type of design doesn't seem like it would be too flexible for someone who has lots of content.

Castlelady this forum is not for content. It is for a forum. It is put together with vBulletin forum software with a custom skin.

Buy New Tampa misspoke when he said “I know this forum is a bit of an outdated”. I believe he meant the thread was outdated. And it is almost 2 years old. You are more than welcome to start a new thread on Templates so you can get current information.
