It is good to ask open ended questions and really listen to people, I think the best negotiators are alert not overbearing.

Great point! Also, don't ever disclose too much up front. If the other agent knows your clients intentions and or limits in the beginning, they will then know where to get you!

Don't play "hardball" too hard!! Sometimes over extending yourself or trying too be too aggressive can get you into trouble and, in turn, ruin a deal that may have materialized otherwise!

Whether you represent the buyer or seller always find a problem with the transaction pertaining to the other agents client. Never give the buyers agent or sellers real estate agent a chance to feel comfortable with their clients position. Always leave a little doubt in their mind pertaining to their client. This will give you the edge and never allow the other agent to take charge.
