Re: Laptop which Model?
A friend of mine built a Vista machine. He is running 4 gigs of high end ram and a xenon quad core processor over clocked to 3 gigs with Vista premium home edition 64 bit ed. It boots slow but other than that, it screams. If you are getting a Vista machine, I would recommend 2 gigs of memory for the 32 bit version and 4 if you get the 64 bit. Vista is a memory hog. Plus ram is pretty cheap right now and its the easiest thing to install to give your machine a performance boost.

Re: Laptop which Model?
Charles I appreciate your input...
The Dell I'm testing came with XP Pro...I could have gone with Vista but do to it being a real RAM Hog I chose to go with Pro. Plus I'm not real fond of some of the differnces of Vista. I guess I'm fighting change like we all do!
I wish I could get a Quad Core Dell but they are not available at this time. And the only Quad Core Laptop starts at a little over 3k...ouch!

I currently have an old Sony VGN S260 and it just seems like it can't keep up with the load any more.

How do you say slow especially when I have 30 to 40 windows open.
Where I have a dilemma is do I tolerate they Sony for another 6 months and wait for the quads to come out or jump on this Dell D830...tough choice

Re: Laptop which Model?
Dell Latitude D830 - it is really nice I'm on my second week of trial and I can tell you it is really a nice piece of gear. I like the speed the larger screen and the battery life does appear to be what Dell claims.
If it weren't compatabilty issues I would probably go with an Apple but I don't want to fight those issues on top of day to day!
