Other Search Engines and Directories Secondary Search Engines such as Lycos, Teoma, Alltheweb, Altavista, and others along with Directories like DMOZ can still bring significant traffic.

Default Directories Golden rule.....

I wanted to share this golden rule with every single member here. No matter how valuable you think a directory link is.... Never ever never do a reciprocal link exchange with a directory (ESPECIALLY from your home page.)

The reasons why
  1. many directories will run afoul of Google at some point. A link on your site to them will drag you down with them.
  2. Many times your listing will be on an interior page with a lower PR. So you end up trading a good PR link from your home page for a lower PR link from one of their interior pages. This is a net SEO loss for you.
  3. The same also applies to traffic. The traffic you send to the directory will be less than the traffic you receive from it.

Yes traffic wise it's a not a good thing to get from directories the visitor you'll get from directories would be from other webmasters only not from usual visitors, who use directory for searching anyway when we have search engines.

But usually I did was an ABC process (this was the term they usually call it) when one directory requires a reciprocal link I manage to put the recip for my article blog and some of them accepted it. Is this Good or Bad?

The question would be, why submit to reciprocal directories when we have lots of free one way directories?

Elizabeth the issue is if the article blog you have is linking back to or getting a link from your site, the relationships are not that hard to catch especially if your competition reports you.

Adier, thank you for defending the cause for me when I was absent.
