How about this Phelps kid?
I'm not a big fan of the summer Olympics, but this U.S. swimmer Michael Phelps is incredible. With all of the pressure he puts on himself PLUS the expectations of the outside world he keeps going out there winning gold medals and setting world records.
To me, there is only one other athlete in that class - Tiger Woods.
Both of these guys have the uncanny ability to shut out the outside world (especially the press) and get the job done. Amazing.
Back in HS and college I was a decent athlete and played hockey for some top teams. I even tried out for the '84 Olympic team (got cut after about 10 minutes!). But I wonder what it would be like to have that much talent for just one day?

Michael Phelps is really incredible, i am not an american but i truly admire him..He is an excellent swimmer, one gold medal is too hard for some countries to achieve, but for him giving the united states more than 1 gold is amazing!

He's now known as the current greatest Olympian, too bad for Tiger no golf in Olympics.

Lucky for him all of his competitions were timed. He wouldn't have won 8 gold medals if he had to perform in front of those judges.
It is not a coincidence that the US kicks butt when a clock determines the winner and we don't make the cut when there are judges involved.

Re: How about this Phelps kid?
Heard today he can expect to make $80,000,000 per year on endorsements. (Still less than the Tiger though, so sad)

Re: How about this Phelps kid?
Well though it is sort of strange when there are so many medals in just 1 sport , swimming . Someone who dominates swimming can win many medals , whereas it's not the same in other disciplines .
