Technology will improve when the local boards loosen their control of Agents hiring 3rd party vendors.
Most boards allow only the Broker to hire 3rd party vendors and force Agents to use a framed version of the Board’s or Brokers IDX.
It is not uncommon for boards to make the hiring of a 3rd party IDX vendor difficult if not impossible.
When we limit competition, we limit the possibility of improvement.
As long as Agents adhere to the MLS regulations they should be allowed to use any solution they prefer IMHO.
Additionally, Boards should be more forthright in supplying usable data to vendors that are new to their market instead of making them jump through hoops only to be doled out incremental data in unusable formats.
