I did it on & off prior to this year. The last time I did not give a closing gift I ran into the buyer's friend (I met her during the house hunt) & she asked me straight out what kind of closing gift did I give to her friend! I was floored. I've been giving them out all of the time ever since.
I've been giving baskets that I make up using different items depending on how well I know the clients. This could be a wine basket (if I know they drink wine) with other related items or some kind of household basket. I was thinking of creating an emergency home kit. I found these cute wicker baskets shaped like a house & bought them all since it was one of those close-out stores.
I also have a couple of different "Home Organizer" type books that have pockets for receipts and places to write home maintenance & other items in. This is a great gift for the first-time buyer.
I try to give something that I can put my contact information on or at least something they'll be able to keep around & maybe remember that I gave it to them.
