Re: Who's using a pro real estate photographer
Not from my personal experience but from what I've read
According to a survey by America’s National Association of Realtors, 80 per cent of people across the country who bought a new home in 2006 used the Internet while house hunting, and they rated photographs as the most useful tool in their search. In fact, for people looking to buy a home, the photographs are more important than anything else you can throw at them.

But is it that hard to learn or master the art of photography if you can do it your self you can get more income, right?

Re: Who's using a pro real estate photographer
It is true that most buyers begin their search online. But depending on the resolution of their monitor and the size picture file that the site they are on may negate the benefits of spending the money. But for high dollar homes, you would want to pull out all the stops for the brochures to give to potential buyers.
I have yet to have a problem/complaint using my digital camera and various editing software. But every time I have answered this question online, it seems to be the opinion of photographers that agents are really missing the boat by not using them.

Re: Who's using a pro real estate photographer
Thanks for that link. We're adding rental photos to our list of services and we believe a huge number of tenants (in NZ) begin their search online and great photos will make the difference between letting this week, or next.
We'd have thought that property managers would use better photos since they are aligned with agents who are already using proper photographers but they seem to be as bad as the landlords.
The pro photographers (for sales) down here are using: - regular photography
- cherrypickers for height
- balloons for aerial shots
You can tell when a house is for sale because the photographer turns up with the funny truck - then a few days later the signs go up (down here the signs have the photos on them too).

Re: Who's using a pro real estate photographer
I personally consider it a waste of my time to take pictures of the property myself. I always have a professional shoot a virtual tour and he takes the still photos for free. For $100 you can't go wrong in my opinion; plus the sellers love and sometimes expect the virtual tour.

Re: Who's using a pro real estate photographer
While I agree with the other posters that pictures are the most visible and impacting impression a buyer gets from a listing, I don't think that real estate agents need to hire a professional. By getting a feel for just the basics of photography (staging, light, angle), any real estate agent can take beautiful shots.
Try shooting while a sunset illuminates the house attractively, or from an interesting angle. Play around, take a bunch of shots, and have fun with it.

Sorry, I don't agree with this. To take top notch photos not only do you need experience you need the right equipment. Real estate agent are not really in a good position to get either. A good agent may get 1 new listing a week on average and will need photos. If the agent take their own photos that is 50 shoots per year. A good photography will shoot 5 to 10 or more per week. So the photographer gets has more experience than an agent. Also it is more economically feasible for the photographer to buy the better equipment, the better software and training.
