I'm a Generation X'er and I think the biggest tip I can give is don't use Generic sales scripts.
The X'er has no problem finding information and are online seeking that information. I personally can't stand salesy scripts in any business and when I hear a sales line, it makes me cringe with distrust. Tell me you are #1 in something that does not matter and I'm probably going to puke. If you are going to sell me something, you better know everything about it because I already know the price. (The price I'm going to pay anyways...) In other words, service and knowledge are key. I'm also extremely loyal to the knowledgeable people I buy from or their services that I use and gladly refer my friends.
43 to 26 are the age demographics for Gen X depending on who you ask so don't automatically think we have skateboards and nose rings.

I think that's more in line with Gen Y which is going to be an extremely important demographic to market to very soon. (76 Million on the way so it's a demographic to be reckoned with.)
Personally, I think it's just as important to understand the populations of the different demographics and applying it properly to your business. "What to market" is just as important as "How To Market".
