Ok so I have been reading a lot about Organic links and I am not sure what that’s means actually.
My understanding is that there are paid links and natural/organic (if there is such a thing) link. Is there really a way to get natural/organic links without having the code to the Holy Grail?
Everything I have read over the last 8 months tells me to get links, links and more links to get positioning for Google. Now if links are becoming an issue (paid) how do you get them?
On my site I set up a simple directory to have one realtor link to me and vice versa. Is this Organic or not?

Yes there are several ways to come up with natural links. One way is to write a very good press release about a subject related to your industry. The second way is to write some very good content for your website that people will want to link to it for information resources. The third way is to create controversy with a blog post or some content on your website that others feel the need to share this information from their websites back to yours.

The key to creating backlinks is to find and use good link bait. Link bait can be positive or negitive either can and will produce link bait.

I good example is the thread about Morgan Carey- Real Estate Webmasters Hacks PREN. Now this wasnt created for link bait purposes but it has created several backlinks back to this forum.

Another way is links in your Forum signatures.

Many think that you should have only 1-2 text links in your signature in the form of a sentence such as LVH has in his.

Let me caution you again about paid links. There is a lot of information out there that strongly suggests you avoid buying links.

You can also post comments to other related Blogs that do not use the “NoFollow” tag. This will create a one way link back to your site.

I believe it is not as much quantity as it is quality. Try to get links from websites that are considered an authority on any given subject.

You may also choose to leverage all of the different social networks to generate some great links. Take a page from Obama's campaign and get a MySpace, Facebook, LinkedIn, ActiveRain, and YouTube account and start posting content. That is essentially what I have done for my Real Estate Viral Marketing Blog 4MySales - Viral Marketing with a Real Estate Twist and I have about 33,000 good backlinks that show up on Google.

I agree on the social marketing - I watched this video www.stompernet.com and got some good ideas and thoughts. Just be carefull not to act to fast.

I agree with everything said here so far. I find myself having to build link diversity and quality, and have wondered just how much the social bookmarking sites suck as Digg, Technorati, ... really do for you.

OK... I will share a little secret many agents do not know... you can get one way links from backpage.com by posting an ad... it can be a property for sale, rent or just a services ad. As long as you know basic html to create an link, you can post them in your ad and get one way back links. That do not last forever, but backpage is like craigslist and gets visited frequently. Craigslist is no usig nofollow, so this does not work there anymore.
