Re: Do Back Links Really Help Rankings?
You really won't learn anything by looking at the results from Google's link command. Not only does that show only a limited sampling of the links pointing to the site, but it is also not in Google's best interest to show any strong links. Why? Google does not want to make it easy to for webmasters (and other search engines) to try and decipher parts of the Google algorithm.
I also believe that's part of the reason why G removed and PR info from the webmaster tool kit. I believe in the next year or so that Google will take even more steps to obfuscate any items that reveal attributes that impact rankings.
If you want to study links you can wade through results on Yahoo, but the best place is to look at the tools on SEOmoz.
