Check your Google toolbar. Did you notice that PR has been grayed out?
Is this a glitch? Is it a sign of things to come? Is this the End of Days?
I guess we'll need to wait at least a few days to say what is going on. There is a lot of speculation going on, but the two that I think may be on to something are:
1. Google is making a major coding change to deal with 302 redirects and page hijacking.
2. Toolbar PR is dead in order to try and stop the manipulation of SERP's through what Google considers non-natural linking. In one fell swoop, Google just may have put a ton of text link brokers out of business.
Remember that Toolbar PR was a way to show how popular a site was baded upon links. Toolbar PR was also well behind (months and months) the actual links pointing to a site.
Google's internal, super secret PR is what determined the search engine rankings.
I'd hate to be someone who makes their living by selling high pr links right now! You know they are sweating bullets. Imagine if page rank doesn't reappear for a few months...
Just to add my .02 here - if PR in the toolbar disappeared, it would be up to us to determine the best websites for our visitors rather than creating artificially determined good websites.
