Arrow Paid Links??

Hi All,
I found a site called LinkRe.com, which offers paid listings on a ton of high ranking RE directories and it mentions that they "edit" your Ad....SO, the question is, would Google see these as paid links and penalize me for them?

I asked them and they did not write back....so.....?

Regards,
Rob

Paying for links is still acceptable, but you need to be careful about it. You should consider buying a link if it brings your business more exposure or brings your web site more targeted traffic. You should not buy a link if PR is the only positive aspect of that purchase.

If you do purchase a link, you should make sure that it uses the rel=nofollow attribute or is made so that it is not crawlable by search engines. If not, there is always the chance that Google may someday choose to penalize that link and/or the site that the link is on.

FWIW, all of the links that we sell on our local, regional, and national portal sites all use the rel=nofollow attribute.

Golf Guy head the nail on the head as usual. Google is not currently penalizing for buying links. The worst case is that you get zero traffic from the link and zero SEO benefit.

I think there are sites out there that are worth the adverting dollar. However, I am suspect about the value of advertising in directories. The question is not if the site gets traffic, it how much of the traffic goes to each link and what is that traffic worth.

That would have been an accurate statement a month ago, but it's not now. Over the last couple of weeks, Google has hit several "advertisers" for buying links. If you are buying links in any of the top broker networks, you stand a chance of getting slapped.

Linkre.com is a real estate directory and the links you'll be purchasing are going to be in real estate directories. IMO, directories are still beneficial (I just accidentally ranked a site for wrong keywords using directories and nothing else) - you'll be buying a package and Google views these links as paid reviews. Like a university, a directory is judged by how many denials it gives (kinda!) - linkre.com is a respected real estate directory and acctually ranks well.

I have been hearing that people are getting punished for buying links (but??) - I'd imagine these people are blatantly buying a lot of links and not caring where they're published. There are ways to buy links and make them look like they've been earned. IMO text links ads and similar companies aren't the best way to go.
