Default Domain Authority / Best Way To Build It

I find myself in a competition for some key words for key markets that I need to improve my rankings for in order to maintain and improve lead flow.

The question I ask is, what do you all think are the best way to become the Authority in Googles eyes, and such become the best ranked site in the face of competition who is activly working to maintain their Authority and improve it.

To be honest, I have not done as much with Directories as many of my competitors, so no Yahoo directory, DMOZ has not accepted me, I am not big on paying to be in directories of questionable value, and I really hate the ones that want a back link in exchange. According to firefox my domain which was started in May of 2007 is a PR3 what ever that really means, as some competitors who rank better than I do are PR2's.

Search Term in question is Summit NJ Real Estate

all you help is very appreciated.

In another thread I asked for you to PM your competitor’s URL so I can see what is going on.

In the PM please include 5 KWP that you feel your competitor is doing better than you are (in priority please).

I had given that lots of thought but my budget situation finds me in a possition where at this time I don't want to push $300 over to yahoo for there links at this time.

Jim some of the cheaper ways are creation of profile pages in authority sites/forums. Most profile pages will allow you to link to your site.
