Default does link age matter?

I understand that older website get more clout with the search enginer, but do links also age? Do the incoming link grow stronger or weaker over time?

I've heard this before, but I'm not 100% convinced of this anymore.

Our site is less than 2 years old and we outrank sites much older for the same kw's. In fact we are leaving them in the dust They still have more traffic then we do, but we're gaining in that department as well.

Not to sure about link age though. I thought link strength was based on where it was coming from, not how old it was. But I could be wrong.

Anyone actually know the answer to this?

Dunno. I think its reasonable to expect that a link you have had for a long period, may hold a little more value. Shows that you are trusted by that site. Of course, if that page looses its value, then its becomes worthless regardless.

An older link carries more weight but just like all the other pieces of the puzzle, it is just one little piece.

Simply put yes link age matters. I tested this with one of my sites. I wont name the site cause its a secret but a few people here know of it.

I did all the onpage seo and acquired 30 or so backlinks and let the site sit. After about 14 months the site climbed to the top 5 in Google and Yahoo for primary keywords.

Age is a huge factor for everyone other than MSN right now not only for links but domain age and content age. To offer proof of content age I had a particular page that ranked very well..it had to do with condos..I changed the content on that page and this page fell to the second page within Google. The new content had similar onpage seo factors that the previous content had.

If you change the anchor text does the age reset to zero?

I have never changed anchor text to test but changing title tags I know from a page within a site has caused to to drop.
