If you think your internal anchor text linking in your sidebar or in paragraph linking does not help you or you are focusing on external links from other sites too much time to open your eyes. Here is my wikipedia real estate test to prove my point.

Proper internal linking definitely helps. However, you have to be careful. Google frowns upon what they consider to be boilerplate template web sites.

What that means is that you need to make sure that the percentage of unique content on your pages is greater than that of the templated structure from page to page. If you don't, Google will deem those pages irrelevant unless those pages get a "boost" from external links pointing to those pages.

Interesting test. Now how can this be best appied to realtor pages? Is it as simple as include a link to the home page from all internal pages?

There should be a link from each interior page to the homepage simply for navigation and it should contain some keywords for the search engines.

Internal linking is extremely important. Correct anchor text (or alt image text) is imperative. Likewise, if you have pages that are great for your users, but you don't care if the spiders see them, you should nofollow those links. For instance, I have my "now hiring" link nofollowed - I could care less if this page ranks....

I bet the page with the no-follow link gets followed and the page gets cached.

I'll bet it does, too. And I'll also bet that the google algo's understand that it's considered (by the webmaster) a less important page.

It's about directing your internal PR to the appropriate pages.

A good example of this is with one of my sites that I had only 5 other links pointing to the site from outside sources. After the first update in Google I was # 5 for allinanchor for city plus real estate.

The only linking I had done was internal. The site is ranked top 5 in G and doesnt have a lot of external links pointing to it. It also has over 1000 hand written pages within the site and every page has 2 internal links. One pointing to the homepage and another pointing to a similar topic within the site.
