Many times Mack and I encounter situations where people want to view their site in progress after a migration from a proprietary solution to a CMS or WordPress.
Since many projects require us to preserve the page rank and page URL's there needed to be a way to verify this before switching DNS to the new location. Although the reasons for switching solutions and migration vary, many that wish to do it with a little stealth first want to protect the content then testing the migration before delivering the news to their current provider that they no longer wish to do business with them.
Naturally stealthy migration isn't the only motive although quite popular these days in lieu of webmasters sites being penalized by the search engines. Redesigns and plain old migrations are also common motivators for testing a site before switching a DNS server to repoint the URL. Granted plain old /sub-directory methods work, the designer always runs the risk of the search engines finding the directory for simple mistakes like referrers when migrating away from the test location to another site.
Well I came up with a solution that seems to work well. You can visit
