Default Re: Should SPAM be made illegal?

You mean I didn't really win the lottery?

The trouble is, they always find a way to get around the rules. I have companies (real ones) write me and say I opted in and I know I didn't. They also have a link for opting out. It doesn't work. You can go to their website but the contact info is missing or doesn't work. In the end, it's easier and less time consuming to delete the wretched thing than it is to find somebody to complain to.

My email program will often remember what things I consider junk and I can do a quick delete of it all but there are some that somehow fool that mechanism. I don't use a filter because I find I lose emails that I really do want.

Thumbs down Re: Should SPAM be made illegal?

My take on these SPAM issues...

Well let me put it this way SPAM is TRULY a four letter word...

It has gotten so bad that I spend about 15-20% of my time each day sorting through all the BS SPAM out of the 2-3k e-mails a huge majority are SPAM and it is a real PAIN IN THE ...

Even though I'm savvy enough to steer clear of all the BS Con's in the world they are still robbing me.

We need to STOP this BS they are robbing our TIME... IMHO

All we want is relief, relief from Spam mails. We all spend so much time filtering and deleting spam that our biggest concern is that we should not lose messages we really want. Is it actually impossible to get rid of spams?!

Freedom of speech. And, one man's spam is another man's ham.

I think spam emailing is horrible. It really is a waste of time for everyone.

Freedom of speech thankfully cant be tainted by permission to spam. Unfortunately its loose interpretation of the meaning of things that causes those to push the boundaries and open the door for abuse.

I remember when flag burning was briefly protected under that belief but thankfully its now a felony and rightly so.

Freedom of speech is also not a promise or a guarantee that everyone gets to enjoy. It is a dangerous mis conception that the bill of rights applies to everyone who resides in the US when in fact it doesn't. The constitution however does and that "right" is not listed.

SPAM is one of those things that gets debated with to many mis conceptions. As many of you have stated above, what would work is a clearly unbiased definition of what is and what isn't SPAM. Then we find a way to make SPAM so consequential to partake in that people stop pursuing its use.

Just my 2Cents

I don't agree with it. If spamming will be made legal. Then that will be a big problem, unnecessary mails, submission in not related categories and many more.

In an article I wrote at one of the Real Estate blogs I mention that the solution for Realtors to consider in avoiding being added to the dreaded SPAM black list is to consider using RSS.

I put together a video tutorial on this on YouTube on how to setup your MS Outlook to subscribe to blogs RSS feeds.

My idea behind this is that Realtors want to send out email blasts and I have a friend of mine that owns servers for the sole purpose of providing this ability to Realtors which is fine. But why not do all your news releases to those who subscribe to your RSS feed.

Just some thoughts.

I don't know about making spam illegal... but it sure would be nice to do a better job of preventing the spam emails from filling up our inboxes. Outlook allows you to 'block sender' but the senders are clever and they change their emails by a letter or number (or entirely different email address all together).

I'm willing to bet that the person who creates a program that stops spam messages from getting through, will be a rich man (or woman)!
