Well today I only had to delete 15 bogus spam accounts which surprises me. Going through all the blocked IP ranges and email types I see that all of these were gmail and or hotmail related.
The problem is that there are legitimate members with those types of accounts so I'm going to implement a new session control feature to stop spam bots.
I would like to see some way for participants to tag a post as spam. Some of them are getting clever and hiding it in what appears to be legitimate posts. If this continues forums will lose.
Some forum have a "Report Post" button attached to the different post. It sends a message to the admin that they should take a look.
Some are getting very sneaky. I have caught one that was reposting my posts from one forum onto a different forum. Others are posting "Articles" on thier first post. Most of the "Articles" are out of date or of little interest.
The "report post" button definitely helps the mods to find them. I'm on many forums, though, and they've rarely been bothered by spam - you must be very popular!
