As a single mom of 3 I had no choice but to start out part-time. This was 22 yrs. ago when there was no Internet & not much training like there is today. I was working full-time (& mandatory overtime) at the post office. I saved a chunk of money as a hedge against working as an independent contractor and bought a house before jumping into real estate full-time.

In my opion, it depends on their motives. If a few eals a year will be worth it to them, then why not? If they are planning on using RE as a full-time income, you might want to have them further consider their options. As we all know, RE takes a lot of time, dedication, and preservernce in order to be really successful! Good Lick

I think it would be hard to do part time because it requires alot of your time if you are going to do the full agent duties, if she just wants to be involved but not fully, then maybe some assistant work would be good fro her.

I just met a woman with a full-time job who is doing pretty well for herself. She does work a 4-12 shift but on varying days, so she does have some good time frames for most showings.
I was in the business during some bad real estate times & took a full-time job one October to get me through the winter (back then you could go on vacation between Thanksgiving & New Year's as nothing much happened in our area). Figured I'd quit the job in March or April. I loved the job I was in & my boss got our hours to be 10 hrs. a day, 4 days a week (Mon-Thurs). I was Agent of the Year in my office that year! I kept that job for 3 yrs. until our department got dismantled. They wanted me to stay but I went with my boss to another similar company for a temporary thing. Finally went back into real estate full-time again.
However, during this stint is when I really learned how to use computers (this was before pc's and the Internet were popular). So I learned a lot at that job that helped me in real estate down the road. You do what you have to do...

I agree Judy, you do what you have to do, and as a mother myself, real estate has afforded me the flexibility to be with my Children when I need to.

absolutely...Having the ability to grow from part time to full is huge. Especially for those that need a great part time income and the flexability to work around Family activities!

I'm just getting started in RE and sometimes find myself being overwhelmed at all the terminology that is used and wonder if I'll ever learn all the ends and outs. I can only do part time b/c the other half of my time I've got my nose stuck in my Mastering Real Estate Guide!
