Here on the East Coast of the USA it seems like everyone is jumping into this industry. I have been in it for four years and it is not always the kindest profession. So, what about other parts of the USA or other countries? Are you all seeing the same desire from others to be in this career?

Actually we are starting to see a lot of folks get out of real estate here in Missouri.

Expenses, dues and taxes are up while revenue is down and not to mention we see an increasingly “sue happy” general population that runs a higher risk of exposure and loss.

So I think we will continue to see fewer and fewer real estate professionals here in Missouri for some time to come.

It's like any career choice... do it because you love it and the rest will take care of itself. My wife used to run a real estate school and she's been dead on about who makes it... and who does not. Generally, the ones that don't make it are the ones who just got their license because they fell for the ads... "Make 6 figures, work your own hours... etc.. etc.." (For the record... those are franchise ads.)

Getting into real estate takes a lot of risk.Its a very challenging career coz you'll get to talk with different kind of people and socialization.You also be needing a lot of research.But its an exciting career to go for.Big earnings.

Yes it seems there will always be people getting into RE because they think millions can be made with no effort. That is why so many drop out in the first couple of years.

Lots of potential for you as a real estate agent! Obviously the market has shifted quite a bit. With so many more homes on the market here in Minneapolis (really across the country), increased market times, prevalence of short sales, etc, realtors have to be creative with their business plans.

However, it is a great career with huge potential! I hope this helps.

I agree, the way real estate market is in some parts of the US, agents need to come up with all kinds of unique ideas to sell houses. We have so many unsold properties in my area. Beautiful houses! My neighbor has been trying to sell his house for a year. I see one interesting thing his Realtor did recently - draped a sign (made out of fabric or plastic) over a mailbox with words "SLOW DOWN" and placed a flyer box next to it. It gets your attention for sure.
