Default Manufactured Homes

Why aren’t more people buying factory built homes instead of site-built homes? Is it because “manufactured homes” or trailers aren’t durable? Or is it because the manufactured homes industry doesn’t have a pretty image? Do people think that the homes are unreliable, destined to fall apart?

I’m just curious because I read an article saying that the Ford Foundation is sinking millions of dollars into raising the image and financing options of homes built in a factory.

I think that you bring up a great point Miami. I mean, it seems that they would be more time efficient and just overall, easier to build. I think that manufactured homes do bring a negetive picture to mind, especially here in the Las Vegas real estate market, but I think that if someone (maybe Ford) could change that image, then they would be a smart idea. Good toipc

In Portland. mfg homes is a liability and a depreciable asset. I've shown a few of those homes and they're actually quite ok inside. But the image associated with mfg homes are first so poor that most buyers shy away from them.

I have heard of manufactured home sort of picking up the pace latley, or being on track to anyways. I have read in several modren magazine how they are the "new thing" becasue they are easy to assemble, cheaper, and can be transported. The Las Vegas real estate market does not have many mobile home neighborhoods, but I think that it could be a definite idea for the future!

I have also seen those modern-type manufactured homes in magazines latley! I think that they are a great concept, especially for the Las Vegas home market. They are cheaper, easier to construct, and so forth! I mean, hasn't the cost of housing materials rasied a huge issue latley? I think that this concept would help to eliminate many of those troubles!

I think manufactured homes are the way to go nowadays. They are cheap (in price) and they are easy to build. I have seen some nice manufactured homes that are just beautiful.

Most of you have said already what the problem is with mobile homes...they're cheap! While they are cheaper to build, cheap is also the problem with them. Not to mention it seems that trailer homes carry with them bad taboo. I rarely here anyone gushing about a trailer home they saw, unless they are saying "it was really nice for a trailer". I know that manufactured homes have come a long way, and I too have seen some nice ones, but I don't think that they will be then next big thing anytime soon.

What is the first thing that pops into your mind when you think of a trailer? If you’re like most people, you probably thought of the wheels. Trailers of the past definitely sat on wheels, after all, that’s how it got to it’s desired location. Manufactured homes arrive on wheels also, however they get removed once the home has reached it’s destination.
When and if you decide to ever purchase a manufactured home, do your research. Find a local sales center that is knowledgeable of the subject and give them a call. Whoever you choose to buy from, it’s wise to use an online search engine to look up that company’s reputation. You don’t want to buy from someone who will leave you high-and-dry after you’ve purchased your home. It pays in the long-run to shop smart. Buying a home is an important investment for you and your family.

Manufactured homes has a long way to go to overcome their reputation. All I know is I got twice as much home & land and in great shape by buying a mobile. It may not go up in value like stick built but my plan is to hold it forever, turning it into a rental eventually. Financing is the problem because many lenders shy away from mobiles. I would not buy a new one in my area, since the market is flooded with foreclosed ones like I bought. Many are basket cases, but sweat equity can/will turn into sweet equity.
