Question MSN Traffic

I am a little disheartened in the amount of traffic I am receiving from MSN.

I would have thought that with the big media push at around the Super Bowl that MSN would do more marketing to gain a larger share.

Is it the lack of marking that hasn’t given MSN a larger market share or what?

I cannot figure why MSN backed off on their marketing campaign. I would think that they would have spent millions upon millions of dollars on their new SE.

One reason that they may not be marketing heavily is that they still have some kinks to work out with the new SE.

But what I really think is that they are going to spend hundreds of millions on advertising their new OS, code name Longhorn. And something tells me that integrated MSN search is going to be a huge part of the new OS. For example, if you are searching for something on your own PC or searching for help in an MS application, MSN search will open in your browser.

I can see the lawsuits waiting to be filed on that one...

I was thinking that as well.

They still don’t quite have a handle on spammers.

I’ve also noted that the majority of MSN traffic occurs during normal business hours.

Have anyone else seen this, and if so would you attribute that to MSN as the default on the “Office” networks or what?

MSN traffic has died off noticably in the last two months. I'm speaking on a term that has remained constant for me as well. The traffic has dwindled down to almost nothing compared to four months ago. I guess the rush to try it has worn off---that plus the incredible amount of junk sites being listed in the top ten. MSN loves spammy promotion techniques too much. SEO who quickly jumped on the "we love MSN" bandwagon aren't so supportive as they were. I think that MSN gets the majority of its users from the computer illiterate at this point. So unless your industry is related to something that that particular demographic will want, your traffic will be low. Just my two cents.

Most of our sites are still seeing strong MSN traffic.

I still see the majority of the MSN traffic coming in during normal business hours, so that makes me believe that the office networks (most of which have MSN as the default) are supporting that traffic.

If that is the case, when a surfer gets home they go back to their favorite SE. Either way, Yahoo and Google have managed to stay in the news as of late and MSN needs to get going on some PR.

HHI Golf Guy and Al are correct about still seeing a good amount of traffic from MSN, but if they check their logs I would be interested to know if it drops off after 5pm like I am showing.

Cool

Seems like the MSN Traffic has really slowed down!

I have seen similar complaints about the lack of MSN traffic in other forums and NOT just real estate sites.

Unless consumers gain confidence in search results produced by MSN, they will remain a distant 3rd in the Top 3 Search Engines.

It is all about relevancy!

I still believe that MSN will get rid of the spam and close the gap. I’m just not sure when.
