Although I know that the standard referral fee is 25%, what do you do when another agent asks for more? Should you simply say no and lose the referral or negotiate with them?

I go case by case. If you know the person and they want 30% or another pre-arranged amount, that is one thing. But, I would not suggest negotiating with outside referral too much, becasue then it takes RE back to everyting being discounted, etc. However, I think that most agents are happy with 25% becasue it's a fair number.

I would never personally say no, especially if it seems like a decent referral. I would at least try to negotiate if I thought it was an unfair fee.

I look at the kind of deal we're talking about. If it's an $700 deal or above, we can talk. A 200k deal with a picky client, well, I'll have to think twice.

You could negotiate to a point, and make sure to have a bottom line.
