House Detail Architectural Terms?
I'm new to the business and now realize, going through my MLS forms that a lot of what I see I do not know much about. Example under ROOMS what is a great room, media room, living room, etc. Under CONSTRUCTION there is brick and frame, cedar, frame, stone. Under BASEMENT bath/stubbed, boat door. STORIES theres split foyer, split level. STYLE A-Frame, Chalet, European, Victorian.
I don't know what a lot of these are. Can someone recommend a book, or a online resource to help me study all these options?
I know I can just ask for help in my office, but I would love a resource I can go back and forth to so as to begin recognizing what I see. Any help appreciated.
Thanks

If I were you I would ask you broker so that you are sure to be accurate. Overall, however, I would use common sense. If there is a room already established and you can tell there is electircal and so forth for a media room, then I would specify "yes" to media room. Under construction would be anything not completed!

I would have to agree with Las Vegas Real Estate. All systems are different, depending on the state in which you are in. I would just ask your broker first and then call your local board of Realtors if necessary.-

Yes, I would offer the same advice. Here in the Las Vegas real estate market my company had a bunch of training when I got licensed. I would see what programs your broker, division, and local board of Realtors offers.

You might actually want to contact a member of the MLS committee at your local board. A member should know the definitions and may even point you to a glossary that the local board maintains to insure accurate information is input to the MLS.

I signed up for a class later this month on the topic. NAMAR is offering it as a credit course, just what I needed and was waiting for!

itgl72...
A couple of suggestions meanwhile....
1. Do a google search for an Architectural glossary
2. Or you can actually search for the Term you are looking for that is what I do if I don't know the term...
3 Sometimes your local MLS will publish a Glossary...
Hope that is helpful...

Re: House Detail Architectural Terms?
I agree anything you ever don't know can be googled. That is how I get all my info. One thing I would add is even when you do learn the terms there is never any guarantee that the listing agent does so always explain to your clients that the terms or discriptions on the MLS could or could not be accurate. That is always the case here with our bedrooms and optional bedrooms. One example here is sometimes listing agents count rooms with no closets bedrooms and sometimes they are optional bedrooms. Also, one persons media room may be another persons great room or family room so there may not be exact terms for some things.
